Make a Pledge

We know many of us would like to help local businesses in this challenging time. If this includes you, please read on. We also know it’s easy to make a commitment to help out more and lose that intention in the day to day chaos. Losing track of what’s important is easy to do in normal times; it’s downright simple in chaotic times.

We launched this site yesterday and have already had 50+ suggestions for local business to add. Clearly, we hear the need to help.  We know that simply a businesses listing isn’t likely to be enough, so we’re asking Londoners to show up for Londoners by making a simple pledge.

I will do one activity a day to help a local London business.

I know not everyone can afford to buy a product or service from a company every day; luckily there are many ways we can help and support without needing cash. Some ideas of activities you can do include:

  1. Buying an item for pick up.

  2. Buy a gift card for later use.

  3. Leaving a positive review on Facebook/Google/Yelp (only if you’ve used the product or service!)

  4. Following them on social media.

  5. Sending them positive messages on social media.

  6. Write them an email conveying support.

  7. (Other ideas welcome!)

We also know that a key part of following through on goals is accountability. At its root, accountability is two words: count and ability. We have seen a lot of great accountability frameworks used. The simplest is a self-reporting Google Doc sheet. The writing accountability groups in Akimbo Workshops use this framework to help you stay accountable to your writing goals, as an example.

If you’d like to be added to this sheet, please send an email to david.billson@rtraction.com and we will add you to the sheet. The tool is meant to be for you; it is self reporting and will only be shared with those who have made the pledge and asked for access.

To make the pledge, follow these steps:

  1. In front of a mirror, screen or in bed with your smartphone simply make the pledge: I will do one activity a day to help a local London business.

  2. (optional) Ask to be added to the accountability sheet to track your pledge process

  3. (optional) Share your pledge with others on social media to encourage them to do the same.

Thanks for helping to support our local business owners!
